Sanz-Blas et al. 2019 showed that users who feel they spend too much time on Instagram report higher levels of « addiction » to Instagram, which was related to higher levels of stress induced by the app. Studies have shown users who take more selfies before making a post, and those who strategically present themselves by editing selfies, report higher levels of body surveillance and body dissatisfaction, and lower esteem overall.
